Bio - David Van Buren
David M. Van Buren is the senior vice president of business strategy for L-3 Communications. Mr. Van Buren is focusing on the strategic execution of L-3's operating objectives, including technical initiatives and strengthening the company's position in an era of shifting defense and national security priorities.
Mr. Van Buren has more than 30 years of leadership and management experience in government, large defense corporations, and small and medium aerospace and commercial high-technology firms. Most recently, he served as the Air Force Service Acquisition Executive. He was responsible for all Air Force research, development and acquisition activities. He provides direction, guidance and supervision of all matters pertaining to the formulation, review, approval, and execution of acquisition plans, policies and programs.
Prior to his work with the Air Force, Mr. Van Buren primarily served as an executive for numerous private equity-owned high-technology firms. He has also held leadership and program management positions at Raytheon, as well as the heritage companies of Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin.
A graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in physical science, Mr. Van Buren also received a master's degree in industrial management from Central Michigan University. He served on active duty in the Air Force for nine years, finishing his career as a captain.
