Bio - Sherrill Nicely

Sherrill NicelyMs. Sherrill Nicely assumed the role of the Intelligence Community Chief Information Officer (Acting), effective February 23, 2009.  Ms. Nicely served as Deputy CIO since November 2008, assisting the Acting CIO, Mr. Patrick Gorman, in managing the responsibilities of the office, formulating strategies and policies for CIO functions, and overseeing improvements to electronic information sharing.

Prior to her work as the Deputy CIO, Ms. Nicely served in the Office of the ADNI/CIO as the Deputy Associate DNI for IC Information Technology Governance (DADNI/ICTG), where she was responsible for formulating the policies and guidelines for the enterprise infrastructure that supports secure interoperability among IC organizations and customers, including the provision of a single identity for all IC personnel, and improvements to mechanisms for providing role-based access to information.  In addition, she led ADNI/CIO activities supporting improvements to the government’s cybersecurity posture.

From June 2002 through January 2006, Ms. Nicely served as Director for Information Assurance in the Office of the IC CIO, overseeing the community’s compliance with information assurance policies and requirements.  Before joining IC CIO staff, Ms. Nicely served as the CIA CIO InfoSec Liaison, and the Information System Security Manager for CIA systems that share information with the Community.

Ms. Nicely will continue the work of  Mr. Patrick Gorman, the outgoing Acting CIO, with a priority focus on accelerating information sharing and developing tools to foster collection and analytic transformation.
