Government Contracts, Ethics and Enforcement
April 28, 2008 (Mon)
Registration is now closed
Please join the AFCEA DC Chapter on 28 April for an in-depth discussion on “Government Contracts, Ethics, and Enforcement,” taking place from 10:00am-12:00pm at 600 13 St. NW, Washington, DC. The presenter is Stephen Ryan, head of Government Strategies and Contract Practices in a senior Washington law firm.
Bad things increasingly happen to good contractors and their government counterparts. What kinds of things do we see happening in 2008? What are the do’s and don’ts in working in this environment, where good companies have been subjected to agency oversight: firms such as HP, Boeing, Blackwater, Sun, and others? What can we learn from their experience?
Additionally, new legislation also poses a challenge for industry. What does the new lobbying disclosure act mean for our industry? New “bundled” contributions must be interpreted. Congressional gift/travel ban regulations must also be understood. And finally for those companies with political action committees – what are the bounds of their participation?
Stephen Ryan served as General Counsel to the Senate Government Affairs Committee, which drafted the original ethics regulations. He then served as Counsel to the President’s Commission on Organized Crime. He also served as the Assistant Attorney General in Washington, prosecuting criminal cases.
