About the Conference

The Defense & Security MOBILE Symposium, hosted by AFCEA DC, will focus on the potential that mobile and wireless technologies offer for meeting the operational mission of the military, security community & DHS, as well as for improving business operations and training.  The speed at which commercial mobile is expanding presents both challenges and opportunities for today’s Military Services and the Federal Government.

While mobile devices, networks, and applications enable individuals to have rapid access to real-time information, situational awareness, effective training, medical, technical, and back-office resources, they also present very real challenges in the field and at home.  We continue to struggle with ensuring that information is subject to analysis, assurance, and authority; that communications are secure and interoperable, and identities are assured; that data-at-rest is protected; that service denials don’t cripple our ability to act; and, that we strike a balance between policy and flexibility with regards to devices, plans, uses, architecture, operating and development environments.

Our five Services, DoD Joint Agencies, the Intel Community, Homeland Security, and the rest of the Civilian Federal Government are simultaneously examining this same set of opportunities and challenges.  Through the Defense & Security MOBILE Symposium, we seek to provide a platform for military & government leaders to share their goals, needs, requirements and challenges with a large audience of professionals who can help achieve the mission of serving and protecting America, through greater access to the mobile future.

At the event we will tackle the most critical issues facing the Mil-Gov Mobile community, through three meaty panels:

  • COTS Mobile in the Tactical Environment;
  • Applications & and App Ecosystem for the Defense/Intel Community; and,
  • "Bring-Your-Own-Device" to Work

Through keynotes and featured speakers we plan to hear from NSA, DISA, DOD CIO, State, OMB & the Military Services on the Defense and Federal Mobile roadmap.  These Senior Leaders will spur discussions of the way-forward on

  • Security
  • Resources
  • Enterprise Hosting
  • Mobile Device Management
  • Thick-vs-Thin-client solutions;
  • Training; and,
  • Authority/Responsibility

We will talk use-cases, get updates on Pilot programs, watch policy arm-wrestle technology, and keep on eye on how to ensure that innovation and small business can both flourish as Mobile grows.

500+ of your colleagues are expected to turn out for the The 2nd Annual Mobile Symposium.  In fact, a robust community is already growing-up for year-round discussions and activities after the event - our "Defense and Security Mobile Working Group".  July 20th will be both a continuation and a catalyst for our conversations as a community.  You can simply get caught up and engage for a day, or stay connected for the next year - all from the platform of the July 20th Mobile Symposium.

As with past AFCEA DC Conferences, the 2nd Annual Defense & Security MOBILE Symposium will prove to be a valuable exchange between the military, civilian agencies, and the contractor community, around a relevant and fast-moving topic.  Don't miss the opportunity to be part of the conversation as an attendee or sponsor of this focused event.
