About the Symposium
The AFCEA DC Cybersecurity Symposium will highlight the elevation of
Cybersecurity to the Administration’s number one technology priority,
and lay the groundwork for the national and regional communities of
government, industry, academia and nonprofits that will be working
together to address the priorities that emerge. The Conference will
provide government officials in the Administration, Congress, Federal
Civilian Agencies, and the Military a platform for sharing their goals,
needs, requirements and challenges with a large audience of
professionals in the field who can help the federal government and its
partners “leap ahead” – using the knowledge that we have today, with an
increased focus on responsibility, to address the unpredictable
landscape that we will face tomorrow.
The DC Cybersecurity Symposium seeks to provide its attendees with:
- A robust discussion around FISMA 2.0, with perspectives from OMB, current CISO’s who are excited about the challenges they are facing and their opportunity to make a difference, and advocates of change from The Hill – everyone that shares the goal of taking us beyond compliance to a space where we can begin to address real security;
- Discussion of the operational aspects of the new C&A process (now Standard Authorization Process) with a panel of CIOs from Military & Civilian agencies as well as ODNI – highlighting success stories in agencies that have made progress, and the very real challenges and opportunities that are faced by agencies and military alike;
- An overview of the changes in DoD’s emerging cybersecurity leadership, with perspectives from each of the Services; and,
- An update on the CNCI and the progress that the Administration has made in the first five months - toward a more comprehensive strategy and leadership, building on and amplifying the previous administration’s efforts.
The June AFCEA DC Cybersecurity conference builds upon the success of our sister AFCEA Chapter’s in the region, who have been holding similar regional conferences for the last decade, highlighting the needs of the Army, Navy/Marines, Air Force, Law Enforcement and Health IT Communities. Based on those previous successful events, we expect attendance at the Cybersecurity Symposium to be a full-house of 600+ attendees. Come out and join your fellow colleagues who are working hard to meet the security needs of the Agencies highlighted and the Federal Government overall.
