This year the Corcoran Gallery of Art highlights major works by the artists associated with the Washington Color School and their contemporaries.  In "Washington Color and Light", the Corcoran presents works that are united by an exploration of the language of abstraction, a desire to experiment with materials, and a love of color. The exhibition reveals the artistic innovations and individual approaches that shaped new directions in abstract painting and sculpture from the 1950s through the late 1970s.

The Corcoran will also feature an inaugural exhibition of new work by Spencer Finch on the subject of clouds. "Spencer Finch: My Business, with the Cloud" draws from the history and physical environment of Washington, D.C., and explores the poetic, physical, and meteorological aspects of these natural phenomena.

The Corcoran Permanent Collection has also been updated, and refreshed, and will showcase:

  • Modern and Contemporary Art Since 1945
  • Photography and Media Arts
  • Selections from the Collection of Historic American Art
  • American Bronzes from the Corcoran Gallery of Art
  • Sculpture from the Mouse House: The Olga Hirshhorn Collection at the Corcoran
