This year the Corcoran Gallery of Art
showcases works by many of the most important African American artists
of the last three decades, including painting & mixed media,
photography, and film. One of the exhibitions, called 30 Americans,
focuses on issues of racial, sexual, and historical identity in
contemporary culture while exploring the powerful influence of artistic
legacy and community across generations. Other exhibitions highlight
photographic essays that explore pressing social issues like poverty,
race, segregation, and crime, as well as how
the concepts of spectacle and display relate to notions of African
American identity.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Mary Anne Reilly of the Mary Anne Reilly Studio,
who provided the artwork for the 2011 Winter Gala logo, and invitation.
