AFCEA DC HONORS INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WARFIGHTER WITH LEADERSHIP AWARDS PROGRAM
Representatives to be Recognized at Spring Leadership Awards Gala
Washington, DC — May 14, 2008 — The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association’s DC Chapter (AFCEA DC), a non-profit association focused on promoting higher education in the hard sciences, mathematics, computer technology, and engineering, today announced its first Leadership Awards program. The program recognizes a member from each branch of the military that has made a significant contribution to the Warfighter through the use of information technology (IT), with special consideration given for decisive bravery. Award winners will be announced during AFCEA DC’s Spring Leadership Awards Gala.
“AFCEA DC initiated the Leadership Awards program to recognize the brave young men and women responsible for protecting this country,” said Mike Kush, President, AFCEA DC. “We had a 12-Star executive selection committee (recently retired three-stars) consisting of Lt Gen Steven W. Boutelle, U.S. Army (Ret), Lt Gen Robert M. Shea, U.S. Marine Corps. (Ret), Lt Gen William J. Donahue, U.S. Air Force (Ret), and VADM Jerry O. Tuttle, U.S. Navy (Ret) to review the nominations. The quality submissions made the selection process extremely difficult. We are quite honored to present the awards to four outstanding individuals at this year’s Gala.”
COL Tom Catudal (Ret), AFCEA DC Awards Board Chairperson, and Ms. Denise Demers, Vice Chairperson, coordinated with members of the Armed Services, Joint Staff, COCOMS, and DISA to identify nominations. After collecting and identifying nominations, the Awards Board presented the nominated candidates to the AFCEA DC executive selection committee for consideration.
All of those nominated will be recognized during the Spring Leadership Awards Gala, taking place May 17, 2008 at the Ritz Carlton, Tysons Corner. This formal, black tie event focuses on program excellence in the defense IT community where significant contributions have been made in support of the Warfighter – all on Armed Forces Day. Individual/couple tickets and corporate table sponsorships are still available.
